All done! I averaged ~14.5 mph for the second 37 miles, not stellar, but not horrible.
Every time I do a long ride, I learn a little more about what it takes to finish, to ride at a certain speed, and to feel good when I'm done.
Everything can be grouped under a few categories
1) staying cool
2) proper nutrition
3) hydration
4) keeping my blood pressure up
5) getting my heart rate up (a.k.a all systems go!)
The second half of the ride (37 miles) was hampered by heat. I just couldn't stay cool, even with the fan & water. Each time I sponged down, I could speed up, but each time i got warm, it was difficult to maintain pace. I've found a cooling vest to order & will do so after my trip, so hopefully that solves the heat issue.
Nutrition was okay today, but I could tell I was running out of fuel by the end of the second half. I'll do better next time. I didn't hydrate as well as I should have, but since I don't sweat I thought I could get away with less water. I was wrong. Another lesson learned.
Blood pressure was okay & all systems were kinda go...
All in all, not a bad ride. Movies were okay..... Still not my thing. They just don't engage me. However, they are WAY better than listening to nascar!

Great categories to consider when working out and being physically active. I learned proper nutrition is important the hard way on Saturday. My son and I woke up early to kayak. In a rush to get moving he had a good breakfast and I had, well, nothing. Our goal was a six mile trek. We did 5 miles. I got hungry and lacked the energy to go the final mile. Glad you are doing well on the bike.
Amazing ride! Good luck on your next one...I look forward to reading all about it!
