today's ride... part 1

I'm 30 miles into the 67 mile ride & it's time to refuel...

Got the dvd player up & running today! I watched hotel Rwanda & plan on watching walk the line during the second half of my ride.

The 30 miles felt good, I averaged a little under 15 mph, not bad.... But this morning hasn't been without drama and challenge. About 17 miles into the ride my derailleur cable snapped.. Bad news... You need a derailleur to A) shift gears and B) stay in your gear of choice. I'm running a pretty high gear these days, thus my derailleur is very important. Without the cable, the derailleur automatically defaults to the easiest gear. And since this was not acceptable to me, I had to find a way around this challenge.

I don't have the skills nor tools to replace the cable... But I did find a way to 'hold' the derailleur in place so I could stay in a harder gear. Thank God for zip ties! It's not in my gear of choice, but it'll get me through the ride, which is all I need today.

Gotta get a bite to eat, then it's back on the bike. I'm going to shoot for another 40, before I get off again. I hear the 'stops' along the ride are spaced at ~40 mile intervals, so it seems like a good idea to get used to riding 40 mile continuously!

part 2 later today..
